Avela Developments LLP has been appointed to deliver South Liverpool Homes’ (SLH) Hale Road Cottages project in Speke.
Work has started on site to restore the three 18th century Grade II listed cottages, owned by SLH, which will be renovated and sympathetically extended to comply with national space standards. Avela Developments will also deliver 17 two-bedroom level-access bungalows on the land surrounding the cottages, providing new, much-needed accessible homes for people over 55.
The plans, which were approved in January 2020, also include a communal hub and gardens, to help reduce feelings of isolation and create a new, inclusive community centred on one of Speke’s historic and well-loved landmarks.
Gerard McEvoy, Head of Avela Developments LLP, said: “It’s exciting to see work start on site at Hale Road Cottages. We’re based in South Liverpool so it’s satisfying to know that our skilled local tradespeople will be playing their part in delivering this iconic local project that means so much to the people of Speke.”
Hale Road Cottages will be Avela Developments’s second construction project, having previously completed a successful project for SLH at Burnage Close in Speke in 2019, building 16 two and three-bedroom homes for affordable rent.
South Liverpool Homes’ Director of Investment and Assurance, Claire Ryan, said, “Hale Road Cottages is an historic focal point in Speke, and the community are keen to see work begin to bring the cottages back to their former glory.
“We’re excited to break ground on this project and, with a strong local partnership with Avela Developments, deliver a scheme that respects our local history while providing spacious, modern homes for generations to come.”
