A new joint venture based in South Liverpool started work this week on their first housing development in Speke - the first of many following today’s Government announcement of £2 billion long-term funding to build more affordable homes.

Avela Services, a limited company that provides comprehensive, tailor-made services including property, residential and strategic support, has established the innovative partnership – called Avela Developments - with construction and maintenance company, Penny Lane Builders (PLB).  The new funding will be welcome news to the partnership, giving them the long-term stability they need to build mixed-tenure homes for people who need it.

Avela Developments will build its first scheme for South Liverpool Homes (SLH), a housing association that manages over 3,700 affordable homes in the South Liverpool area.  The 16 two and three-bedroom houses for affordable rent on Burnage Close, Speke, will be built on three pockets of vacant land that currently exist in the close, with homes ready to move into from October 2019.

Robbie Mannion, Head of Assets at SLH said: "This new joint venture cuts across a number of key themes relating to new homes, including providing localised solutions, employment opportunities and training and the involvement of SME’s in the development of new homes.  The timing of the partnership is ideal to position SLH in accessing some of the £2 billion funding announced by the Prime Minister today, which will help provide the longer term financial stability to deliver a suitable pipeline of new homes for the next ten years."

Chris Heath, Board member at Avela Services said: "Today’s announcement is a positive move for the sector and this unique model will enable us to take greater control of housing developments in the area."

"This development means a great deal for Speke. We're providing new housing for people in real need and this scheme is a great way for Avela Developments to kick start our movement in the area."

Gerard McEvoy, Director at Penny Lane Builders said: "This joint venture is fantastic news for PLB and the local area.  Speke is proving to be an economic success story and we are committed to helping accelerate the supply of much needed homes through this partnership as well as creating local job and training opportunities.

“We look forward to it being the first of many housing schemes delivered by Avela Developments."
