Avela Developments to Regenerate Grade 2 Listed Cottages in Speke

South Liverpool Homes and Halsall Lloyd Partnership (HLP) have submitted a planning application for the much anticipated regeneration and refurbishment of the Grade 2 listed cottages on Hale Road, Speke.

It is anticipated that construction on the development will start in early 2020 and will be the second scheme by Avela Developments.

The application is the first step in breathing new life into the historic cottages, which will be repaired to the highest standards to ensure they continue to have a prominent place in the local community. As part of the refurbishment, the cottages will also be extended to the rear to comply with national space standards. This will ensure they become spacious homes that members of the community want to live in.

The development also includes 17 new build bungalows which will be built on the land surrounding the cottages. The bungalows will become home to residents aged over 55, creating an inward facing housing scheme with communal gardens and a community hub to reduce feelings of isolation.

South Liverpool Homes’ Chief Executive Julie Fadden said: “We’re delighted to be moving the Hale Road Cottages project forward in a way that respects the heritage of the original buildings while making use of the surrounding land to build the accessible homes that our community needs.

“The plans for 17 new bungalows will satisfy demand for level access homes and create a brand new community for older people who wish to live independently.

“The cottages have been subject to a number of instances of vandalism and anti-social behaviour in the past year so breathing new life into the site will help keep this historic corner of South Liverpool a safe and beautiful place to be, that can be enjoyed by generations to come.”
